A Really Scary Sight
Hey guys, are you ready to see a really scary sight?
Let me show you something. This is our scary sight of the day. This is Jess. She is our wonderful chiropractic assistant here at Perfect Touch Chiropractic, but she is demonstrating exactly what I hate to see—and what is all too common—because they say that sitting is the new smoking.
Now, why? Sitting with poor posture can develop things over time that will become irreversible.
As you can see here, as we’re going through and looking at Jess, she’s got really bad forward head translation. Her shoulders are rounded, her back is arched, her pelvis is tilted, and there is nothing happy about what is happening with her posture.
Breaking Up Your Sitting Period
Part of what we did to try to combat this is we actually bought a standing desk. Even if you don’t have a standing desk at home, there are some things that you can do to help negate some of the poor posture.
Jess, I want you to show them what better posture could look like. Go ahead. Yeah, there you go. Pop it up.
What this allows Jess to do is break up her sitting period. Even if you can stand up once every 15 minutes for just a minute or so, it’ll make a world of difference.
As you see here with her standing, her shoulders are now in alignment with her hips. Her head is on top of her shoulders. She is no longer looking down and crunched. She has very great posture.
What Good Posture Can Do
Good posture can reduce headaches and migraines, alleviate chronic pains, increase productivity, reduce the risk of injury, and even make breathing easier.
There are different stretches that you can do when you have a little bit more time, so be sure to ask us about that if you’re curious about what kind of stretches you can do.
Getting Serious About Poor Posture
But, hey, I mean, there’s a reason that people say sitting is the new smoking. We need to get just as serious about quitting our poor posture as we are about quitting smoking, right?
I look forward to dissecting your work posture—or even just your posture when you’re at home watching TV—a little bit further, because there can definitely be some tips and tricks that I can hopefully show you to alleviate some of the aches and pains that you are getting from poor posture.
I look forward to meeting you and chatting with you some more, and I hope you have a good day.
