The Best Way to Get Rid of Low Back Pain | Chiropractor for Low Back Pain in Hartland, WI
Hey guys, Dr. Olivia here with Perfect Touch Chiropractic, and I want to talk to you today about low back pain. It’s a common enemy for a lot of people and something we see all too often in our office. But have you ever truly thought about why you’re getting low back pain?
There can be a million reasons, and they vary from person to person. However, one of the most common causes is what we call a subluxation — that’s when a bone in your spine is physically out of place, misaligned, and putting pressure on your nervous system.
For some people, this causes a lot of pain. For others, they may not feel it at all. But just because you don’t feel something doesn’t mean everything in your body is functioning at 100%.
Why Subluxations Cause Pain
So why does a subluxation cause pain in the low back? Let me show you.
As you can see, my little spine friend is laying here on the table. The bones in the low back — your lumbar spine — are large and heavy-duty. When one of these bones goes out of place, it doesn’t just float harmlessly in space. It tugs on muscles, ligaments, tendons, and puts direct pressure on nerves.
It can also cause irritation in the discs — that little red dot here would represent a disc that’s inflamed or irritated. This is the kind of issue we identify through X-rays and a thorough consultation process.
The Role of Stress and Trauma
Now, subluxations don’t just happen randomly. They can be caused by a combination of things — emotional stress, chemical stress, and physical stress. Whether it’s trauma from an accident, poor posture, or something environmental or mental, the result is the same: your spine loses alignment.
But the good news is, once we identify the subluxation, we can correct it and help maintain proper alignment — both in your bones and your nervous system. That’s what we focus on here.
The Adjustment Room: What to Expect
Let’s head into the next room — this is where we do our low back assessments and adjustments.
First, we check the alignment of the feet. We’re looking to see if things are even. In this case, his left foot is drawn up, and when I bring him up, it goes long — that tells me his pelvis has shifted.
We use a drop table for the adjustment. It’s not scary — it just makes a little noise. It uses gravity to make the adjustment easier and more comfortable for the patient. I check the pressure on each side before making the correction.
Performing the Low Back Adjustment
Now, we’re starting with the left pelvis, just gently pushing it back down into place. Then we come back and recheck the feet — and look at that, now they’re even! That’s exactly what we want to see.
Next, I test the resistance on each side — making sure things are even now. Then I have the patient raise each leg to check for any remaining imbalance or tightness.
We do a sacrum adjustment next. The sacrum sits between the two large pelvic bones, and when it’s misaligned, it can put a lot of strain on surrounding muscles, contributing to low back pain. We correct that and retest the legs — and already, movement is easier!
Final Adjustments and Muscle Testing
Now for a few final adjustments. I’ll have you take a deep breath in… and out… and again… beautiful.
Next, we perform a quick muscle test. This helps us identify whether the misalignment in the low back is also affecting other areas — even all the way up into the upper back. Pain doesn’t always stay where it starts. Everything is connected.
So that’s a glimpse into what a low back adjustment looks like here at Perfect Touch Chiropractic. Of course, every patient is different, and every spine has its own story — but adjustments aren’t scary. They’re gentle, targeted, and focused on helping your body function better.
I’m so excited to meet you and assess whether you may have subluxations contributing to your low back pain. Let’s get you feeling better!
